This is a painting I did yesterday of Merida, Pixar's heroine from their new film, Brave. Spent all afternoon practicing painting on this one, usually I'd use the eyedropper tool to sample colors but I wanted to do it visually, also I haven't really sat and painted rendered characters much at all since last year due to animation thesis. I could never find the time. So I'm actually happy with how this came out. I used a poster for reference and altered the pose slightly as well as her expression: you'd know if you saw the original version is different even on the mood. I added a filter now with instagram because I hadn't drawn a background for it and I like it much more now, it's not how I originally painted it but I think it looks great this way.

But not quite, but I'm really liking it. the second picture is from my new sketchbook, it's another style too. My blog doesn't get any visitors I'm starting to feel bad about it, idk how to promore it more so that more people give me advice or comment, critique anything, or just take a look. It'd be nice, keeps me going. Not that I'd ever give up, this is my love.

Will show at the 23rd Annual Dusty's Festival at The School of Visual Arts. This is a screen shot, although I edited this frame. The actual film has no shadows nor highlights on the character, just flat color. I learned a lot while working on this film, mainly painting, lighting, and better timing in animation. This project took a lot of sleepless days and nights, mainly because of those backgrounds, but the characters themselves were a bit detailed. Feels like I was testing myself but I doubt I'll make a film with that many characters and details again. Never hurst to try and I guess thesis was that time.

This is a final background layout, the characters are from the blown up storyboard drawing. It's how I scale my backgrounds by drawing onto of the storyboard.

Background 2 from my thesis with a conceptual color scheme for the character in this lighting. I'ts a pain to animate characters in perspective.
This is the 7th finished unpainted background layout from my thesis
This is a piece of storyboard from my thesis film. Just a preview, it's my favorite scene.

This is a wonderful memory from an experience I had with my brothers and neighbors when was 7 in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, back in April 1997. I've been meaning to sketch it this week and for a while actually. It's not exact but this is what I remember most. The comet was visible for about 4 days and it changed from a pinkish color to a blue gray as it passed the horizon. This was viewd from my neighbir's balcony that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean.

So this is my long awaited Nix Raine Model sheet for my thesis animation. She wont have the shine in the actual animation, just limited ones during close-ups.
